Highway vs Jalan

Left: Federal Highway, Right: Jalan Tun Razak

What are Highway and ‘Jalan’?

Highway are major roads designed for faster speeds and long-distance travel. In Klang Valley, key highways with excellent connectivity include the Federal Highway, LDP, Sprint, NPE, and others. In West Malaysia, we have the North South Expressway that travels to the North and South of West Malaysia.

‘Jalan’, a Malay term meaning road or street, typically refers to smaller, local roads within neighbourhoods or towns. You will find the word Jalan typically infront of street names such as Jalan Pudu, Jalan Sultan Ismail and more.

When it comes to advertising, is it better to choose a major highway or a ‘Jalan’?  We have broken down the difference for both type of street to help you decide which works best for your goals.

Highway

  1. Larger Audience:
    • High traffic volume ensures broader reach and greater exposure.
  2. Access to Long-Distance Traveler:
    • Highways connect different regions, allowing brands to reach commuters and long-haul travelers.
  3. Larger Formats:
    • Larger screens and billboards, dominate highways, offering impactful visibility such as our screen in Federal, NPE and MRR2 that are our larger screens.

Jalan

  1. Local Engagement:
    • Strategic placement targets specific communities, shops, or event awareness.
  2. Slower Speeds:
    • Slower driving allows more time for viewing advertisements.
  3. Specific Target Audience:
    • Enables brands to select locations near malls, offices, or universities to reach specific demographics.
  4. Traffic Lights:
    • Frequent stops at traffic lights maximize the potential exposure time.

Highways are ideal for campaigns that demand mass reach and strong visual impact. Jalans, on the other hand, excel in targeting specific audiences with more localized and longer exposure due to the speed of driving for smaller roads.
